Classic Fairy Tales for Kids
Origins of Fairy Tale Stories
Irish Fairy Tales
and more...

Irish Merrow or Mermaid by Krystof Ferreira To learn a little about classic fairy tales for kids, one must go further back in time... further than James Stephens Irish Fairy Tales.

Fairy Tale Stories were gathered up by different researchers into collections from folktales. Some were changed and some actually were written by author like the Andersen Fairy Tales .

Ideally one would start with Aesop's Fables which are not the same in genre as these collections but still a part of children's classic literature.

Many names became known such as the Grimm Brother Fairy Tales or the Perrault Fairy Tales but there true origins are difficult to trace because they came from the spoken word and from different cultures that intertwine.

Take for example the Cinderella Fairy Tale. It has centuries and has gone through dramatic changes, even before the fifty short stories from the Il Pentamerone of Giambattista Basile . Arabian Nights are an example of tales from Persian times. Below are some links to very famous references and the all time favorite classic fairy tales that have travelled through time, and right into our present day.
